Hosting a Pool Party
Summer is heating up! What better time for a pool party? Here are a few ideas to help you plan a fun and exciting day (or night!) at the pool!
Know your audience:
First thing's first: who are you planning to invite? If there are children attending, especially young children, make sure you take safety into account. You can go to your local public pool or beach club and hire a lifeguard so the adults can mingle. Once the safety precautions are taken care of, all you have to focus on is the fun!
Ready for a fun time cooling off in the water? Bring in some music! An extension chord and a stereo or iPod dock can liven up any party! Playlists on an MP3 player or burned onto a CD are fun ways to mix up the music choices, or you can put on your favorite album! Bring lots of options to switch up every hour or so to keep things interesting! As far as games, Marco Polo is a classic one for the kids to play! Is your party is in the afternoon and moving into the evening, there are fun ways to light up the pool area! Buy glow sticks and balloons at your local party supply store (Party City is a great one! Follow the link to order online or find locations!) Bend glow sticks to activate and place inside the balloon. Inflate to desired size, or if you like, varying sizes. Light up your pool with fun colors the kids will love!
Are you having adults over? Make it an evening to remember! Have poolside cocktails and easy to prepare foods, Chex Mix or potato chips in a bowl are easy and delicious. Going gourmet? Select a few wines and make a platter of cheeses! Trader Joe's has delicious and affordable options. Pick up some purple grapes and crackers and you're set! Arrange on a platter and set out by the pool. Your guests will be impressed and will enjoy this sophisticated snack!
You're going to be out in the sun for quite some time! Remind guests to bring sunscreen, but be prepared with sunscreen for guests who forget. Neutrogena has amazing waterproof formulas that can be applied to wet skin. Also have extra towels on hand. Hydration is key in hot summer weather, even into the evening! You will need LOTS of ice for this party! Have a cooler filled with water and juice boxes for kids and beer for the adults. Want to mix up a tropical cocktail? Shake up a margarita on the rocks! If you're willing to splurge, use a high quality tequila such as Patron for a smooth flavor. Follow this delicious recipe and transport guests to a tropical paradise in just one sip!
Salt for rimming the glass (optional)
1 1/2 oz tequila
1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
1/2 oz Cointreau
If using salt, place in a shallow dish. Moisten the rim of a rocks glass with a dampened paper towel, then dip in salt.
Fill the glass with ice; add tequila, lime juice, and Cointreau; and stir a few times until chilled. Serve immediately.
Enjoy spending time with your guests by the pool talking and listening to music! Summer is a time to enjoy the weather and the company of others! Remember to have fun!
