How to Avoid Pre-Corporate Event Jitters
Pre-corporate event jitters can happen to anyone! Whether you’ve planned the event yourself or are just attending, it’s natural to feel nervous just before you walk into the corporate event space. After all, there are lots of people there and you want to make a good impression on everyone. Here are some tips and tricks to avoid pre-corporate event jitters.
Meditate. Meditation is a fantastic way to clear your mind and reduce stress before a big event. Many people think there are some complicated techniques you must do in order to meditate properly. But that’s just simply not true. All you need to do is sit down in a quiet, dimly lit place. Sit on the floor with your legs crossed underneath you, keep a straight but relaxed back and place your hands palm side up on each leg. Close your eyes and focus on your breath as you clear your mind. Try to keep this up for at least 10 minutes to get the full benefit. You’ll be surprised how much better you feel afterwards.
Visualize the outcome. Take a few minutes sometime before the event to daydream about it. Visualize yourself walking into the event venue, greeting the party goers, and making your rounds to all the important people. Visualize anything else that may occur at the event to help you calm your nerves. Try to focus on the positive scenarios. If after the first visualization you still feel butterflies, do it again! This technique seriously works wonders and can help you be the star of the party.
Be yourself. This may sound cheesy but it’s true. Be yourself and you will always be in fashion. Most people can see through others when they are trying to be something they are not. Of course you should be respectful that this is a corporate event and be cautious of how you hold yourself, but you also want your true personality to shine through so that your boss and other executives can see you for who you really are.
Come prepared. Make a list of all the things you need to bring with you. Bring your business cards and a pen. If you’re giving a speech, write down the basic topics on some note cards for safe measure. Think about anything else you should bring with you to ensure you are fully prepared to network and accomplish your goals at the event.
Take care of yourself. Be sure to get a good night’s rest before the big day. Drink plenty of water, eat nutritious food only and avoid sugar, alcohol and fast food for a day or two before the event. This will ensure you step into the event feeling fabulous!
