3 Halloween Party Trends You Should Try This Year

When it comes to holiday parties, Halloween is one of the best types to organize. You don’t have to go overboard with food, and everyone is encouraged to dress in their cutest, scariest, funniest, or craziest costume, which provides endless entertainment.

What are some of the trends that you can use to throw a unique Halloween party this year? Here are some of our favorites.

  1. Color

Go beyond the typical orange and black decorations to give your guests a feast for the eyes. We saw two great examples of this from the Green Wedding Shoes blog.

A rainbow theme allows for so much creativity, from the decor to the food, to the costumes. This party includes rainbow pumpkins, balloons, and table decorations. They created a rainbow candy charcuterie board and guests dressed in monochrome costumes of the color of their choice.

A boho-inspired palette allows you to combine traditional Halloween colors with a fall boho feel. Incorporate nature by including fall flower arrangements and use flowers in the decor of your food and beverages. Add a little shimmer with metallic-based decor. And don’t forget to set the mood with lots of candles.

  1. Spooky laboratory

Setting your party in a laboratory allows you to get really creative with your food and beverages. Display colorful bottles on your table and serve your menu in equipment that’s kitchen-safe like beakers, test tubes, and a chemistry cocktail to give off a laboratory vibe — here are some ideas to help set the scene via Popular Science magazine.

Keep the theme going by dressing up as a mad scientist in a lab coat and ask your guests to wear science-based costumes. And serve treats like brain cupcakes, petri dishes fulll of candy, cocktails with dry ice, and some spooky drinks to complete the experience.

  1. Pumpkin everything

For those of you who mark your calendars for the beginning of pumpkin-spice latte season, this is your time to shine. Celebrate all things pumpkin with pumpkin table decor and centerpieces. Hollow out some pumpkins as serving bowls or use them as flower vases. Painted pumpkins and a Jack-O-Lantern with real or fake candles inside always provide a great seasonal look.

What’s on the menu? Your favorite gourd. Check out this list of more than 50 pumpkin-based recipes from The Kitchn as inspiration. It includes something for everyone — sweet, spicy, salty, and savory.

Choose your theme and make It safe

It’s hard to talk about any celebrations this year without mentioning the COVID pandemic. Remember to keep your guest list small, and provide plenty of hand sanitizer. Halloween is the perfect time to hand out masks as party favors; order some orange-colored disposable masks or provide markers so your guests can draw a scary smile on them. If you have little ones attending, you can allow them to trick-or-treat with a treat table stationed by an adult who hands out candy or provide treat bags.

No matter what theme you select, have fun with it. Go all-out and give your friends and family a Halloween to remember.
