Getting your friends together for a party was way simpler in 2019. When it came to the menu, you weren’t afraid to put together items and dips that could be shared without a second thought. I’m myself famous for putting together a killer charcuterie plate, and I’ve become a master of buffalo chicken dip. But, now the parties include fewer people and the menu needs to be rethought as well.
Recently I went to a socially distant baby shower and was inspired by all the thought that went into the menu - so I broke it down for you here to get inspired as well!
Appetizers
- DON’T serve bowls of chips, DO serve individually packaged bags of chips
- DON’T serve communal bowls of dips, DO serve individually portioned dips (like hummus or ranch) with vegetables to grab (use these cups!)
- DON’T serve a charcuterie plate, DO individual charcuterie cups (or pre-packaged cheese and crackers in these)
Meals
- DON’T serve buffet style, DO pre-portion tin foil meals (try this recipe!)
- DON’T serve complicated, DO easy to grill items, like corn
- DON’T serve sides to pass & share, DO individually packaged sides (Try these containers)
- DON’T serve a large salad, DO individually packaged salad, with pre-portioned salad dressings (Try these)
Desserts
- DON’T order a whole cake, DO serve individual cupcakes (prepackaged cupcake containers)
- DON’T serve on a tray, DO serve desserts pre-wrapped or in cute bags
Drinks
- DON’T open bottles of wine, DO serve individual canned wine (read the benefits here)
- DON’T serve batches of cocktails in pitchers or beverage dispensers, DO serve individual drinks
Hope these ideas can serve as some inspiration for your own socially distanced gatherings! By having individual potions are wrapped items, you are making sure that you are cutting down on the number of items everyone is touching - don’t forget to keep the hand sanitizer and masks handy as well!
