Four Ways to Remain Calm this Busy Season

Event season can be stressful. As a planner, you likely have multiple events and are expected to remember every little detail about them. There is no escaping the stress that comes with planning, but there are ways for you to control and manage your stress during busy times. Follow these tips and ensure you are well-rested and ready to tackle your event head-on.

Make a List/Write It Down

It can be overwhelming thinking of everything you need to do before the big day, especially as you get closer and closer to your event. Often, you’ll find yourself worrying about things or remembering things during times when you’re supposed to be calming your mind, such as right before you fall asleep. If you find yourself getting overwhelmed with all of your “to-dos”, write them down. Having a list of things you need to do and being able to check them off will give you a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction - and make the overall planning process less stressful.

Breathe

Breathing exercises can help relieve stress and keep you calm and can be the quickest route toward calming down. There is no one-size-fits-all solution when it comes to these exercises, so here are just a few variations to get you started. Start by taking a long, slow breath in through your nose. Fill your lower lung and then your upper lungs. Hold that breath and count to three before you exhale. Try counting for 10 seconds while you breathe in and out, recognizing each breath as you take it. There are also some great apps to help you, check out Headspace or Calm for more guided exercises.

Laugh It Off Or Talk It Out

Ever hear that laughter is the best medicine? Well, it’s great for stress too! Whenever you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed with the tasks ahead, talk it out or joke around with a colleague. Laughing will help your mind and body relax. And sometimes, getting with a coworker or a friend for a vent sesh is just as effective in helping you to forget about everything you were stressing about!

Exercise, Go For A Walk, Yoga

Planning and managing an event has more than its fair share of frustrations and stressors. Despite the deadlines, decisions, and long hours, it is important to hit the pause button and reset every day. A great way to do this, and take some time for yourself is to exercise - such as a group class, some solo time at the gym, going for a walk, or yoga.  These activities will help clear your mind and give you some time to focus on yourself for a bit... While your brain may be racing with details of planning, you’ll be able to shut it off and focus on your health for an hour - which will increase your happiness overall.

Executing a successful event can be stressful, especially during busy seasons. Remember these tips and tricks as you enter your next event: make a list, take deep breaths, laugh, and do something for yourself like exercise!
