You have heard of event planning, but what about event design? What even is event design? Event design is thinking about the way your guests and attendees will experience your event through decor, style, and flow. space. This includes everything from the way you set the room up, how you want attendees or guests to walk through the space to what kind of decor and floral arrangements you have. Below are some elements of event design to consider and how to make them conducive to the type of event you’re throwing.
Event Design Elements You Need To Consider
Event Space Needs
When picking a space for your event, consider all of your space needs - do you need an area for registration, do you need multiple rooms for sessions or meetings, do you need a lunch space? Once you have all your space needs - think of how attendees will move through those spaces, and make sure it makes sense. Having a registration/welcome desk far away from where you are actually holding your meeting may confuse people, and will affect your attendee's experience, for instance. If you’re a venue - be sure to listen to what your client envisions and their needs so that you can suggest the best experience for them & their attendees.
Event Food and Beverage
When considering event design for food and beverage, you’ll want to think about physical placement - where will attendees be congregating the most - and about how it is displayed as well. You will also want to consider the types of food you are serving. If you are planning a reception, finger foods are more desirable than heavier meals. If you have a theme, like a baseball theme, think of foods that would remind your attendees of being at a game, like popcorn, hot dogs, and cracker jacks!
Event Decor
One of the most obvious elements of event design is the decor. What kinds of decor will you need - that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing? For instance, if you want to create seating areas conducive to networking, think of how to tie the style of seating into your overall event design and experience. Think of the colors you want to bring in - and you can do that with items like floral arrangements, table cloths, and even custom-built staging.
Event Lighting
Lighting might be the last thing on your mind when you are planning your event, but it can be a very impactful element. You’ll want to take into account how much natural light your event space has. Lighting can be a good way to incorporate key elements of your event by highlighting them. Consider using uplighting, LED lighting where you can control what color lighting is used, and even projecting images with gobo lighting onto the floor or walls.
