Wedding Event Trends of 2022

We are amazed at the staggering number of U.S. weddings that are predicted to happen this year. It’s a new record of 2.6 million weddings! Certainly, many couples had pushed off their big day due to Covid. Now that things have improved, brides and grooms are more than ready to celebrate!

As we pull together our list of wedding trends for 2022, we notice that couples are generally making vibrant and spirited wedding choices. They are focusing on more personalized details. They want to bring joy to their wedding experience despite what tradition usually dictates. Here, we’ve put together the newest trends to make it easy for you to plan your one-of-a-kind 2022 wedding day.

1. Non-traditional Choices

Similar to the last few years, couples are going less traditional in their weddings. They have chosen intentionally to not revert back to a traditional ceremony and reception. Instead, they have gone for a more personal and memorable celebration. Some of these trends include unconventional attire like floral print wedding dresses and for the groom, pops of color, and micro-printed suits.

Couples have added unique things and customized activities to their wedding. We’ve seen brides dancing down the aisle to fun, non-traditional music as well as pets becoming flower dogs as part of the ceremony. Florals have become more distinctive as arches and lush tablescapes. Cakes are also a bit more eccentric including geometric modern cakes and boho-inspired.

2. Extravagant Weddings

As micro weddings and minimonies phase-out, big blowout (expensive) wedding celebrations are returning this year. Not only are the guest counts ramping up, but there is also a shift to include over-the-top elegance and elaborate details. Couples wish to wow their guests with themed weddings including a modern wedding or one that is based on an era, like a wedding-themed around the Netflix hit “Bridgerton.” We have noticed fancy transportation for the couple including horse carriages and decked-out antique cars. Receptions are high-end with art-inspired decor, hanging florals, champagne towers, and specialty bars.

3. Destination “I-do”

Thanks to disappearing travel restrictions, destination weddings have returned as a trend this year. After not being able to travel for so long, many couples are thrilled to exchange their vows and celebrate with family and friends at a far-away location. These destination weddings are usually multi-day events that provide guests with lots of activities to participate in.

4. Multi-day Celebrations

Speaking of extending the celebrations, even couples that celebrate closer to home are extending their big day from one day to multiple days. They want to do more than just the ceremony and reception. 2022 includes welcome parties, daytime activities, day-after brunches, and late-night after-reception parties.

5. Weekday Weddings

We feel this particular trend is due to the sheer number of weddings that have been rescheduled for this year. Venues cannot keep up with the wedding requests and so couples are remaining flexible and holding their weddings during the week. Additionally, with prices on the rise, a weekday wedding can be a cost-savings decision.

Colorful and Vibrant wedding trends

6. Colorful and Vibrant

This year's colors mostly are bold and vibrant and include:

  • Bold jewel tones
  • Greens (emerald and sage)
  • Plum, purple, and mauve
  • Terracotta, rust, and other earthy hues
  • Blues (baby, navy, and dusty)
  • Black and white

7. Sustainable Wedding Event Trends

This year, the trend toward sustainability continues to increase and weddings are becoming more eco-friendly. Since the pandemic, this trend has gained even more traction. Specifically, we see couples seeking vendors that are environmentally green. Brides and grooms are using pre-owned items and decor and renting wedding dresses and suits. They want to use local vendors, seasonal and organic food, and dried flowers, and even their gift registries are no longer solely focused on material items.
