Where to Eat Near the Boston Convention Center

If you’re traveling to Boston for a large conference or convention, chances are you may end up at the Boston Convention and Event Center located in the Seaport District of Boston. Since 2004 the BCEC has been hosting massive events, including eBay Live, Boston Comic Con, The New England Auto Show, and many more massive happenings. In 2019 alone, “336 events [were hosted] at the BCEC and Hynes with over 830,000 attendees, generating 800,000 hotel room nights and $870 million in economic impact.” It’s a great venue that is constantly active, which means that the restaurants in the area are constantly active too! Even if you’re a local, it’s hard to keep track of all the best restaurants in the ever-growing Seaport District. I’ll be touching on some of the best spots to stop by for a bite after your conference, or even if you just happen to be in the area.

Ocean Prime

Ocean Prime

Just a short walk from the BCEC lies Ocean Prime, which is located appropriately right on the Boston waterfront with an intimate and upscale setting. The restaurant is a member of the Cameron Mitchell Restaurants family and settles for no less than exceptional service and extraordinary quality meals. With an excellent selection of both surf and turf, you’ll have to come back several times to enjoy all of their options.

Choose from a variety of sushi rolls, a selection of critically acclaimed seafood dishes such as the Lobster Tails, or a list of steak cuts ranging from filet mignon to bone-in ribeye. And if you’re musically inclined, feel free to have a chat with the General Manager, Harry Jones. He’s part of his own band, Junkyard Jones & the Trashcan Band, and actually met his bandmates while working in the Boston restaurant scene. Harry will attend to your every need, and you’ll also be whistling happy tunes as you’re on your way out after a delicious meal.

Loco Oyster Bar - Tex Mex & Seafood - South Boston | South boston ...

LOCO Taqueria & Oyster Bar

This restaurant describes itself in the perfect way: “LOCO Taqueria & Oyster Bar is a funky neighborhood joint located on West Broadway in South Boston that specializes in tacos, raw bar, and tequila.” It’s as simple as it gets and is 100% true. LOCO offers your classic Mexican fare, including burritos, bowls, quesadillas, and even loaded wings. What really stands out is their selection of tacos. Choose from a series of delicious fillings, including avocado, Baja fish, crispy carnitas, and several more. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself ordering multiple rounds of their delicious tacos.

The tequila bar is a beast in its own right, offering 28 different brands of tequila, and some with their own separate subgroups. If you can’t handle tequila straight up, choose one of their delicious margaritas that each have its own special twist. Nightlife for LOCO is popular as well, so you’ll most likely see a line to get in before 9 pm. If you’re looking for a place to mingle and have a few drinks along with delicious finger food, go loco at LOCO!

Events | Gather Boston

Gather

Located within the District Hall in Boston lies Gather. The District Hall is another large and modern venue curated for thinkers and innovators that also has the space for large events and parties. If your group is lucky enough to head over to The District Hall after your conference, you’re certainly in for a treat at Gather!

Some of their select favorites include their Chicken & Waffle Bites, their Charred Octopus, and their Short Rib Gnocchi. Gather’s savory dishes are accompanied by thoughtful and original artwork throughout the venue to enhance your dining experience. One of the mosaics, titled “Building Dreams II,” was designed with the Seaport spirit in mind: “You look at what’s happening in the Seaport, and the crane felt like a metaphor for innovation and creation. It was a cool homage...What you see in our space is what you see in the neighborhood.” The only thing that could make the Gather experience more enjoyable is good company, so be sure to bring your friends and co-workers!

Harpoon Brewery and Beer Hall

Harpoon Brewery and Beer Hall

Harpoon was started in 1986 by Dan Kenary, Rich Doyle, and George Ligeti. They were three friends who loved beer and loved drinking beer together but found the beer choices at the time to be limited. Traveling through Europe and experiencing the rich traditions of European brewing and beer drinking enhanced their love of beer and opened their eyes to the rich beer culture they wanted back home. They decided to build a brewery so that they could brew the beers that they wanted to drink and invite their friends to the brewery to drink it with them. In June of 1987, a warehouse space on the Boston waterfront was transformed into a brewery, and the first Harpoon Ale was brewed. Fresh, local craft beer began making its way out to Boston beer drinkers. It was hard to imagine that craft brewing would become what it is today. Though many things have changed since the early days of Harpoon, much has stayed the same. We still love brewing beer and enjoying it with friends. One thing that has changed: in August 2014, Harpoon became an employee-owned company! We invite all of you to visit our Boston brewery, where it all began, and our beautiful brewery in Windsor, Vermont.
