Where to grab a cold beer in Asheville, NC

Asheville, North Carolina, has been named Beer City four times since the beer scene all started back in 1994 when Oscar Wong created Highland Brewing, which we feature below.

Here are four brewhouses in Asheville to check out the next time you’re looking for a place to unwind with a craft beer and a few good friends.

Hi-Wire Brewing - Biltmore Village Taproom

Hi-Wire Brewing - Biltmore Village Taproom

Hi-Wire Brewing is a unique, industrial-chic venue, situated just two miles from the heart of 1 mile Downtown Asheville in Biltmore Village. Located next to their Big Top Production Facility and taproom, the 5500-square-foot brewery is the perfect spot for weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate events, luncheons, private parties, or simply to grab a beer.

Hi-Wire Brewing’s 27,000 sq. ft. Biltmore Village Production Brewery & Taproom opened in the summer of 2015. This location brings the brewing process to life by allowing craft beer drinkers to enjoy a pint of Hi-Wire’s approachable and balanced lagers and ales beside the tanks where they were created.

The Funkatorium Cultura

The Funkatorium/Cultura

Located in the South Slope of Asheville, Wicked Weed’s Funkatorium is the East Coast’s first sour beer dedicated taproom. Featuring over a dozen varieties of these styles on draught, visitors can expect a total immersion into the old-world way of experiencing and appreciating beer along with a creative food menu.

Check out the updated outdoor space, Biergarten, with expanded seating and a design refresh! The total number of sour beers on draft is 22, and 34 bottles are available both in-house and to take with you.

Proudly regional, the company is now run by Wong’s daughter, Leah Ashburn, and has grown to be the largest independent, family-owned brewery in the Southeast.
