Written by Nicole Catatao | Nov 21, 2023 2:30:00 PM

With more than 50 breweries popping up in and around Charlotte, North Carolina, the city has become a craft beer scene you do not want to miss.

Here are seven brewhouses in Charlotte, NC, to check out the next time you’re looking for a place to unwind with a craft beer and a few good friends.

Protagonist Beer

Located just South of Charlotte's uptown center city, Protagonist is nestled in a beautiful industrial building that feels anything but when you walk in. They Make Beer. They Make Pizza. They also make a lot of other fantastic stuff. There's plenty of space for large parties and more intimate gatherings. Featuring a full bar menu with beer, wine, and cocktails.

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery

Eat, drink, and relax in the Southeat’s largest biergarten; Olde Mecklenburg Brewery.

When you walk through the doors of the Brauhaus, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a Bierhall somewhere in Cologne or Düsseldorf. High ceilings, warm wood paneling, and a lively community atmosphere make the Brauhaus a great place to pull up a chair and enjoy whatever fresh flavors Olde Mecklenburg Brewery is pouring that day.

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery strictly follows the world’s oldest beer purity law, the renowned German “Reinheitsgebot,” which states that beer should only contain four ingredients: water, malt, hops, and yeast. The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery practice never compromises on beer quality.

Resident Culture Brewing Company

At Resident Culture, they brew what they like to drink - hop-forward IPAs and pale ales, lagers, barrel-aged beers, and wild and spontaneously fermented ales. Resident Culture works with local partners whenever possible to help grow and support the local community in Charlotte and throughout the Carolinas.

Brewers at 4001 Yancey

Southern Tier, Sixpoint, Victory Brewing Company, and Bold Rock Cidery have joined forces, combining years of experience to bring you the latest and greatest the craft beer industry has to offer and welcome you to the Brewers at 4001 Yancey

Victory Brewing has been putting fun twists on traditional styles since 1996, making a line-up of beers that are as fun to drink as they are to brew. Southern Tier has been perfecting recipes since 2002, so you can grab a beer, grab some friends, and keep enjoying unique flavors again and again.

Brewers at 4001 Yancey is built in the historic Bower’s Mill building, home to Bowers Fibers, a textile company in operation since 1946. But that’s not the only piece of history about the new space. The fermentation tanks are the original tanks used when Victory opened its doors in 1996. A chiller, DE filter, and other equipment made their way down from Southern Tier in Lakewood, NY, so Charlotte is truly bringing the two breweries together.

Located in the South End of Charlotte in what is considered “The Craft District”. Meet the Brewers at 4001 Yancey- a group of like-minded brewers in Queen City who are excited to bring you some of the highest quality, most innovative beers you can drink.

Heist Brewery NoDa

Heist Brewery’s original focus was on small-batch beer in the traditional Belgian and German style brews. In 2016, they created the original hazy IPA in North Carolina, CitraQuench'l. Since then, the team has worked tirelessly to expand the Heist Brewery beer portfolio, ranging from hazy IPAs and pilsners to fruited sours and adjunct stouts. They still make the occasional small batches, which are typically kept in-house for pours at both locations.

Heist Brewery is more than beer. So much more. The food menu showcases wood-fired specialties, flatbreads, and dips, which have been the pride and joy. Sandwiches and wraps have become a staple, and burgers use a hand-selected combination of meats that have become a proprietary blend. You won't find it anywhere else!

The cocktail program is also forever evolving. From simple and refreshing to more complex and thought-provoking, you will find something to enjoy, no matter the occasion.

Wooden Robot Brewery

Located in the heart of Southend, this rustic bar venue is a convenient location; versatile & open floor plan, exposed brick & bow trusses, ambient lighting, convenient parking, and exclusive nature are what make this one of the most sought-after breweries.

Their journey began as best friends in middle school, continued as they became enthusiastic homebrewers, and led them to the creation of Wooden Robot Brewery. Inspired by the seasonality and locality of farmhouse brewing, Wooden Robot uses 100% local malt and fresh fruit, herbs, and other artisanal ingredients whenever possible. Using local farms, foraged, and specialty ingredients supports the growth of the local economy and community.

Cabarrus Brewing Company

Cabarrus Brewing Company is the first craft brewery in Concord, NC. Located in Concord's historic Gibson Mill, the brewery is housed in a building that was once the finished goods warehouse for the Gibson Manufacturing Co. Cabarrus Brewing strives to meld local history, character, and traditions with locally produced craft beer!

A night out with friends and family starts at Cabarrus Brewing Company. Indoor and outdoor areas for every occasion, comfortable tables to gather, pub and live events to entertain, and private spaces to cater to your special occasions.
