Today is National Oyster Rockefeller day, in honor of this historic dish, enjoy a tray of fresh oysters at your local eatery. Here are a few EventUp restaurants serving up salty oysters for your enjoyment.
“The National Oysters Rockefeller Day on January 10 is a day that celebrates the history of the dish, Oysters Rockefeller and how it stood the test of time. Oysters have been around for 180 million years and Neolithic men consumed vast quantities of oysters 5,000 years ago. Today, humans have reached the peak dish made of these shellfish, namely Oysters Rockefeller. This is a luxurious baked dish crafted in the French Quarter of Louisiana.” - National Today
The Oyster Rockefeller dish was crafted back in 1889 by Jules Alciatore in his father’s restaurant, Antoine’s Restaurant after there was a snail shortage. The rich dish was named after John D. Rockefeller, as he was the wealthiest man at the time. Today, the recipe is still a heavily guarded secret, but you can still enjoy the dish at its birthplace.
The world-renowned French-Creole cuisine, impeccable service & unique atmosphere have combined to create an unmatched dining experience in New Orleans since 1840.
